Welcome to Tango in Calgary with Epicurean Tango Society
featuring highly esteemed Argentine Tango Maestros:
Angel Coria y Claudia Sortino

This 2 week - 26 class progressive building and learning programme on Argentine Tango fundamentals leading into Vals, Milonga, Nuevo - Simple - Intricate - Complex with emphasis on the Tango Codigo of leading and following musically, deconstructing and reconstructing movement mechanics for each dance and to HEAR / LISTEN / UNDERSTAND the music differences and to teach the tools to create an improvised dance based upon the possibilities presented on the dance floor and the most tango pleasure!

Newcomers and Beginners we extend a very warm welcome to participate in Argentine Tango Classes from those who understand it best - Argentine Tango Maestros.

Local and visiting tango dancers, we hope you'll appreciate the focus on technique with musicality, leading/following, navigation and Milonga etiquette - as the Argentineans know it. We also emphasized the integral element rarely featured: how to capture possibilities to create an improvised tango, technically, musically in the line of dance, in a crowded or open dance floor.as well as making each tango unique vs one dance to all music

Due to the length of Masters in Residence 26 Classes over 2 weeks, we made numerous changes from the shorter Professional Tango Series.  In particular, evening classes are  paired for technique and concept continuity for a better tango experience by all participants.

Special note from
Maestro's Angel Coria y Claudia Sortino
on how to attain the optimum benefits of this Alberta First Performing Arts Master's in Residence Premiere:

Maestros Angel Coria y Claudia Sortino - approved for best student experience classes are paired for continuity and teaching philosophy:

1. understanding - the mind
2. incorporate - the body
3. do - muscle memory

Hi Sandra & Ralph;

Many thanks for sharing last evening & introducing me to dancing the Tango.

Considering all the hard work you put in to make these evenings successful Sandra.

May I suggest that you arrange to have someone else looking after kitchen duties so that you can be free to dance , mingle and have more fun.

I look forward to being with you both for Valentine's Milonga Feb. 13th.

Cheers!

Hi Anthony…It was a wonderful event. Thank you for your instruction.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the class.

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon with Frank and Tess. They took me to buy shoes and then we practiced for 2 hours. The shoes made a world of difference…Frank thought it was more his instruction….Ha, Ha!

Thank you for a fabulous time...

Hello Sandra,

I would like to let you know that I had a fabulous time in the Milonga last night.

The venue, the people, the conversations, the food, the music and the dancing were all enjoyable. In addition, the promotion of multi-culture - giving out red pockets for the Chinese New Year was noted and appreciated!

I also enjoyed dancing a little bit of other Latin dances – Cha cha, Salsa, Merenge, Cumbia and Rumba. Thank you.

I look forward to attending the next Milonga. Hopefully, you and I could dance a song or two.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

forwarded from Anthony re: The Argentine Tango

Hi Anthony;

I enjoyed your Tango demonstrations, you are poetry in motion on the dance floor.

I really appreciated having the opportunity to share your table & visit with you in addition to receiving your patient Tango instructions.

It is very gracious of you to offer to teach me to dance the Argentine Tango and I am enthusiastically looking forward to mastering this very expressive Dance.

I realize that You are celebrating The New Year of The Tiger and The Olympic games are also being televised, however, I will make myself available at your convenience.

Gung Hay Fat Choy to you too Ron,

Thanks for the praise. Remember, it is the lady that makes a guy look good on the dance floor, ALWAYS.

Us guys are merely coat hangers, our partners are the beautiful fabrics hanging on, our job is to debut the fabrics in attractive waves of wind.

Certainly nice to connect up with you, I shall make some arrangement to get you a good training partner and we shall take your dancing to serveral nodges up in no time.

Stay tune and take care,

Glad to contribute, Sandra and thanks for the invitation. You and Ralph and become a very important social centre for tango in Calgary very quickly!

Sorry I left early. I've been working very long days during the week, part of the weekend, because a broker has left and I'm taking over his book. That is on top of my regular work and although it's rewarding it's very tiring! As well, I've been fighting sinusitis for weeks now (I really don't like taking antibiotics), so I need lots of sleep.

Take care, see you on the dance floor soon,

Hi Ron!

I'm so pleased you'll be joining us for the Mardi Gras Milonga!

We have all been where you're at, but part of the Tango spirit is to share that joy. In Tango, you are always learning.

It is a pleasure to see your enthusiasm and there is no doubt with guidance from Anthony, Tess and Frank plus your keen desire to Tango, it will soon flow.

It is practice, perseverence and more practice, but there is no doubt - you will develop into a beautiful Tanguero, especially with your tall frame and long legs.

We believe in you and know, the butterfly that resides within will emerge.

See you this evening!

Thu, Mar 4, 2010 at 1:26 PM

Hello Sandra!!!

How are you?

Thanks for your e-mails and for the reminder for the Tango Practica on Thursdays and Sundays.

I will be there on Sunday for sure.!!! I will not be able to go on Thursdays because I have some classes in Bow Valley at that hour.

By the way, I would like to confirm my assistance to the Milonga on March.

The last Milonga was incredibly beautiful. I enjoyed every part of it: the decorations on the tables, the music , the food -which was so delicious- and the most important part: all the people who made an extraordinary atmosphere.

Everybody was still there at 1am. It is a pity that I had left because the cab was already there waiting for me, but for the next Milonga I will take the necessary previsions to leave it later.

:D

Thanks again for such incredible organization, for your effort and enthusiasm to organize it, a marvelous option that is already lighting the Tango life in Calgary.

Regards,

JUAN CARLOS
