WOW!!!!
National Day of Tango!
From Buenos Aires to Calgary

Hermenegildo Sábat, the great illustrator!
We were totally surprised and delighted to learn that El Tangauto Tango in Buenos Aires, Argentina, (with over 16,000 Facebook likes!)  included Epicurean Tango Society in Calgary, Alberta CANADA in their Celebrations Around the the World notice!  Click on the above listing to see the incredible GLOBAL extensive Milonga listings to celebrate this very special Argentine Tango date!

For our 2nd Annual National Day of Tango Milonga, it was a pleasure to share the personal photographic memento of Fabian and Roxana Belmonte, Tangodeoro.  This historic photo captures Ben Molar - the creator of the National Day of Tango and all the truly great people who enriched their Tango lives and in turn, ours. It is this generous Tango spirit that I believe Ben Molar wanted to foster, for all to experience.
photo from Fabian & Roxana Belmonte, Tangodeoro
On December 11th, the National Day of Tango, we celebrate the shared birthdays of Carlos Gardel (1890) and Julio De Caro (1895), but also honour Ben Molar, whose tenacity and persistence for 11 years ensured it was declared into Argentina law.
Subsequently, in 2009, UNESCO designated Tango as a Cultural Patrimony of Humanity.

Angel Coria

Argentine Tango Mini Festival

August 4 to 7, 2011
Featuring:
12  Group Classes
4 Elegant Milongas;
Private & Semi-Private Lessons

 INTRODUCTION:

Angel Fabian Coria

Dancer, Choreographer, Maestro of Tango &
Judge, Tango de Salon, World Tango Festival, Buenos Aires
He was born on May 10, 1969, in a little town of the province of Chaco, Argentina

Angel is know as one of the principal dancers in the film Tango by Carlos Saura(1998), which was nominated for an Oscar and won the 1999 American Choreography Award of the Academy of Dance on Film. He not only played the roll of a dancer but the assistant of the choreographer played by Juan Carlos Copes.

As a dancer he exposes his passion with elegance and sensual style. There are two for Tango and a lot of passion, the dancer gives his vent to imagination and creativity to tell a story of love or hate in few minutes.  He transmits that deep connection not only to his partner but to the audience.

He shared stage with great Tango Masters like Juan Carlos Copes(Play “Entre Borges y Piazzolla” (1997)won the “Estrella de Mar Awar”,and from 1998-2002 was part of Cope’s company, Mariano Mores(1995), Julian Plaza(1998), Maria y Carlos Rivarola (for world championship of Tango in 2002), Raul Lavie(1997),Virginia Luquez(2002-2005), Maria Granas(Play Copes Tango Copes 2002), Sexteto Mayor(Play “Tangos y Gaucho, Portugal, Spain Bulgaria1992), José Colangello (Japan, 1996) Osvaldo Berdincely (Japan 2003), Alberto Podesta(Spain and Portugal 1992) to name a few.

He was the director of choreography for many shows such us “Buenos Aires Bohemia” ((1998) Shanghai, China), El Viejo Almacen, Manofactura Papelera (Buenos Aires, Argentina.)He performed and was the director of choreography on TV (1990) “El Gran Debut”.

He teaches conferences worldwide.  He toured and performed in USA, China, Japan, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Serbia, Canada, Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Paraguay and Uruguay.

He is an experienced, dedicated and modest maestro.  When you meet Mr. Coria you will find precision, control, elegance, musical interpretation, approaching the interpretation to incorporate pauses, change of tempo, and listen to the melody instead of rhythm.  Listen to the partner and incorporate what, the partner communicates to him, but most important, to interpret with the energy formed by a close body connection.

In the class, he inspires an environment, to reveal and encourage personal creativity and potentials  ……the legs and feet have a very exclusive language capable of drawing silent shapes that reveals what words can’t do.  The Tango starts above, in the mind and goes down to the heart.

Mr. Coria is loyal to his essences he defends the traditional tango but he can merge the old time Tango with modern Tango without loosing his particular style.

He also was the Assistant Director and involved in the choreography for the National Ballet of Folklore (1990)

Angel Coria began dancing folklore at the age of 8 and made his professional debut in 1986 with the “Ballet del Plata” and won the Cosquin Award.

A New Year … A New Idea … A New Club
Epicurean Tango Society

Although Calgary is a city of over one million people, the current tango community is quite small.

This club was created to offer an inviting and friendly milieu, within a nurturing community,
fueled with enthusiasm for Tango, a passion to learn, share, develop and surpass existing tango skills.

Epicurean Tango has attracted people who have never been exposed to Tango before, as well as,
Welcoming back those, who left and includes experienced Tangueros seeking a unique experience.

Tango in Calgary is in its early stages of a beautiful, blossoming garden with unlimited possibilities, unrestricted colour, unconditional acceptance filled with an  energy that fosters a positive, productive and progressive life journey to be shared.   You’re invited to join us.

The Argentine Tango Mini Festival covers 4 days & we’re excited to welcome Angel Coria!
A tremendous amount of planning and preparation went into this programme and we extend an invitation to all participants to experience in a caring learning environment, with a Maestro.

Thank you for your support, bring your friends, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife,
we’re here and we’re interested in your feedback,

Hi Sandra & Ralph;

Many thanks for sharing last evening & introducing me to dancing the Tango.

Considering all the hard work you put in to make these evenings successful Sandra.

May I suggest that you arrange to have someone else looking after kitchen duties so that you can be free to dance , mingle and have more fun.

I look forward to being with you both for Valentine's Milonga Feb. 13th.

Cheers!

Forwarded from Anthony ... So glad you enjoyed.....

Hi Anthony…It was a wonderful event. Thank you for your instruction.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the class.

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon with Frank and Tess. They took me to buy shoes and then we practiced for 2 hours. The shoes made a world of difference…Frank thought it was more his instruction….Ha, Ha!

Have a good week! See you soon….

Hi Kate,

Thank you for all your advice on the laws.
Since you're in Edmonton and will be unable to join us in Calgary for our Valentine's Milonga, I would like to refer you to Daniel & Vera at Casa Tango Edmonton www.casatangoedmonton.com. They have a great passion for Tango and I know they would extend a warm welcome you and your husband.

Sincerely,

Sandra Miller

Thank you for a fabulous time...

Hello Sandra,

I would like to let you know that I had a fabulous time in the Milonga last night.

The venue, the people, the conversations, the food, the music and the dancing were all enjoyable. In addition, the promotion of multi-culture - giving out red pockets for the Chinese New Year was noted and appreciated!

I also enjoyed dancing a little bit of other Latin dances – Cha cha, Salsa, Merenge, Cumbia and Rumba. Thank you.

I look forward to attending the next Milonga. Hopefully, you and I could dance a song or two.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

forwarded from Anthony re: The Argentine Tango

Hi Anthony;

I enjoyed your Tango demonstrations, you are poetry in motion on the dance floor.

I really appreciated having the opportunity to share your table & visit with you in addition to receiving your patient Tango instructions.

It is very gracious of you to offer to teach me to dance the Argentine Tango and I am enthusiastically looking forward to mastering this very expressive Dance.

I realize that You are celebrating The New Year of The Tiger and The Olympic games are also being televised, however, I will make myself available at your convenience.

Another Home Run

Hi Sandra & Ralph;

Thanks to You & Ralph for hosting a beautiful event.

Sandra's untiring organizational abilities combined with Executive Chef Ralph's culinary expertise set the tone for a delicious evening of music for tango.

Anthony's dance instruction was also much appreciated and I had a fabulous time.

Congratulations for hitting another home run,

Ron

Gung Hay Fat Choy to you too Ron,

Thanks for the praise. Remember, it is the lady that makes a guy look good on the dance floor, ALWAYS.

Us guys are merely coat hangers, our partners are the beautiful fabrics hanging on, our job is to debut the fabrics in attractive waves of wind.

Certainly nice to connect up with you, I shall make some arrangement to get you a good training partner and we shall take your dancing to serveral nodges up in no time.

Stay tune and take care,

Anthony

Glad to contribute, Sandra and thanks for the invitation. You and Ralph and become a very important social centre for tango in Calgary very quickly!

Sorry I left early. I've been working very long days during the week, part of the weekend, because a broker has left and I'm taking over his book. That is on top of my regular work and although it's rewarding it's very tiring! As well, I've been fighting sinusitis for weeks now (I really don't like taking antibiotics), so I need lots of sleep.

Take care, see you on the dance floor soon,

David

Hi Ron!

I'm so pleased you'll be joining us for the Mardi Gras Milonga!

We have all been where you're at, but part of the Tango spirit is to share that joy. In Tango, you are always learning.

It is a pleasure to see your enthusiasm and there is no doubt with guidance from Anthony, Tess and Frank plus your keen desire to Tango, it will soon flow.

It is practice, perseverence and more practice, but there is no doubt - you will develop into a beautiful Tanguero, especially with your tall frame and long legs.

We believe in you and know, the butterfly that resides within will emerge.

See you this evening!

Hola Guylene, Sandra, Ralph,

Couldn't make it to tango tonight because I'm packing for a four day trip to Banff - leaving

tomorrow and reutrning Sunday - and then for my trip to AR, which leaves Monday morning. I'll be

back for the next tango night at DQ March 24, dance on in the meantime!

Sandra and Ralph, hope your next milonga is a smashing success!

Hello Sandra!!!

How are you?

Thanks for your e-mails and for the reminder for the Tango Practica on Thursdays and Sundays.

I will be there on Sunday for sure.!!! I will not be able to go on Thursdays because I have some classes in Bow Valley at that hour.

By the way, I would like to confirm my assistance to the Milonga on March.

The last Milonga was incredibly beautiful. I enjoyed every part of it: the decorations on the tables, the music , the food -which was so delicious- and the most important part: all the people who made an extraordinary atmosphere.

Everybody was still there at 1am. It is a pity that I had left because the cab was already there waiting for me, but for the next Milonga I will take the necessary previsions to leave it later.

:D

Thanks again for such incredible organization, for your effort and enthusiasm to organize it, a marvelous option that is already lighting the Tango life in Calgary.

Regards,

JUAN CARLOS

Hi Sandra and Ralph,

THANK YOU so much for bringing in Marcos and Ruta to Calgary for not only are they such super nice people, they are incredible teachers! Over the years, I have taken many dance disciplines and private lessons and I believe that they are simply the best ... at least for the way I learn.

Thank you too for a wonderful evening last night. You and Ralph have done a wonderful job in organizing the event ... you both also looked super last night.

Wishing you both big success in all your future endeavors!

Regards,
Cynthia
